Should I wear the collar of my 3 button polo shirt (Ralph Lauren or Lacoste) up or down? I'm 34..?

I get a lot of stick for wearing it up...

Have to admit I'm 35 and wear mine up all the time - I wear RL or YSL mostly and have about 15 that I rotate all through the summer.
I guess I have always done it since I started wearing Polo shirts about 15 years ago. I'm sticking with up for a few more years. I do the same with rugby shirts too.

Wearing it up is to '80's. Wearing it down is the current fashion. If you don't you will be out of fashion for the next 5-10 years when they start wearing it up again, as fashion is not only fickle, it is cyclical.

Leave the very last button buttoned down but leave the other two open. A polo shirt implies a certain amount of casual & buttoning it all the way up implied a certain amount of control that is in total contrast to the garment. If you have a little chest hair, it will peek out of the unbuttoned part, or maybe wear a very thick discreet gold chain (classy, not flashy/trashy bling). Polo shirts look great with khakis or dark denims, pressed with a crease, & Dockers or Topsiders. Good luck - !

I think they are ridiculous. I graduated in 2000 which was the first year they began enforcing it at my old school. Instead of enforcing uniform codes the schools they could just get off their lazy butts and try to enforce dress codes. Like no tank tops, no wearing your pants down to the crack of your butt, no flip flops, etc.
I think it's a good idea to have a school dress code. I had one when I was in high school. at least you get to wear something nice, i had to wear a dress shirt and tie with black pants. The odd occasion we were able to wear khaki and a nice polo shirt. it lets everyone be equal, no one gets teased if they can't afford some of the nicer things then what other ppl can
I think dress codes are actually cool...in that when you are on your private time you actually have a chance to express yourself in your dress. It's more an opportunity for you out of school, to be you. Youo should look forward to the time you get to express yourself and embrace that. Plus no one needs to be distracted with someone expressing themselves in their attire in school. I support uniforms.

Some dudes just look good in Ralph Lauren boutique pink. Lots of guys can be seen running around with pink polo shirts on - guys that are almost certainly straight. But they shouldn't try to pressure you. I mean, not every dude feels comfortable wearing the trademark colour of women - which is understandable.

Sure, I have before, once. My skin color doesn't work with pink or yellow. If it looks good with your skin, go for it. It is just a color and has no meaning. I have seen news anshors wear pink shirts with a tie and they look fine.

How do you keep the collar on a polo shirt from curling under at the points?

I iron it, but somehow throughout the day it tends to curl under?!?! so frustrating! and sloppy

Spray starch is a bit wimpy for this job so you can make your own starch instead.

Go to the grocery store's laundry aisle and pick up a box of ARGO starch. A "medium" starch should work well without your collar feeling like cardboard. Follow the directions on the package, but only dip the collar of your shirt in the solution.

Wring out the excess starch and lay your shirt face down on a towel to dry (overnight should do it) and make sure you smooth out the collar points.

The next time you wear your shirt, the points will be nice and straight and they won't curl up on you!

Remove it from the dryer while it is still damp and use a clothes pin on the points of the collar to hold them straight. I also do this on pant pockets that curl up.

Figure out exactly where and how you want the collar to lie, then pin it down. Turn the shirt inside out and tack it down with a couple of stitches.

For men's shirts, there are inserts that can be put on the points that keep them from curling. I don't know if there are similar things for women. If all else fails, extra-stiff starch.

This answer will date me, but here goes. Shirts used to come with little plastic inserts sewn into the collar to hold them down. I have added those to shirt collars myself in the past to help keep collars laying straight against the shirt. I used to make the strips out of plastic gallon milk jugs. It sounds wierd, but does work. Make a tiny slit under the shirt collar and insert the sliver of plastic at an angle and use a needle and thread to secure the sliver in position, from underneath, making sure the needle does not penetrate through to the top side of the shirt material, so it is invisible. Use a little spray starch to lightly iron the collar and remove any wrinkles and you are through.
The strip of plastic is usually about 1/4 inch wide x 1 3/4 long.
I think some men's dress shirts still come with these.

Ok,I'm a Skinny 15 year old, Super-Preppy Black kid that wears only American Eagle,Polo Ralph Lauren,Abercrombie & Fitch,and Hollister,Also Lacoste.I'm not rich or snobby,I get excellent grades in school,so my parents can buy those clothes.I'm in the 9th grade and I'm thinking of getting a job at a Abercrombie & Fitch store at the local mall.I heard that like 2 years ago they got sued for being racist.I always shop there and the workers don't mind.That's not my only option,if that doesn't work then I'm working at a brand new Hollister that is coming to my local mall.So which store is the best one for me?The Polo Ralph Lauren and Lacoste store are out of the question,they are 2 hours away from my house.

Just because a company gets sued does not mean that they are racist. It usually just indicates that they have a disgruntled employee looking to pad their pockets.
From your description and articulate means of expression, especially at your age, I think you would do very well at any store you choose to work with.

the best one for you depends on their wages, flexibility in your hours as to what they are hiring for, your activities out side of school and so on. check them both out online and apply for both online and when you interview you always have the option of declining the job if you think its not for you which is much more respectable than taking the job for 2 weeks and quitting cause you don't like it. but yes, legally they have to have a quota of so many of color (not necessarily just black, mexican and other races count as people of color) so many women and so many men to make it legal.

i got three hollister shirts and they all ripped within a week!! i would recommend american eagle or even aeropostale. i have never heard of ralph lauren though. and as a +, american eagle has way better clothes than hollister. most shirts say hollister along your chest..thats grody,man. trust me, AMERICAN EAGLE!! :-) much luv,

Hollister, or better yet Abercrombie & Fitch, everyone is into Am. Eagle, and everyone looks the same, Ralch Lauren is way more understated, you where that when you don't care which is better according to everyone else, you simply know its the best
if I simply had to choose... I would pick American Eagle becuase it actually has other things besides the company name across the chest.

Depends what you're into.

American Eagle is the cheapest, is more of the vintage look, laid back and casual.

Hollister is a little more expensive, and has clothes that if you like that "beach prep" look and California culture. Like a surfer dude basically.

Polo RL is on the expensive side as well, but is more for the "classic prep" as to say. Very classy and preppy stuff.

Personally, American Eagle is the best because you get pretty much the same as Hollister, but with a different brand name which is just as cool and for about $20 less.

And AE stuff fits better. Overall, it's a better store.

I'm trying to decide which shirt to wear for my first date tomorrow. Pants wise I'll be wearing dark colored jeans with some brown rugged looking casual shoes. Now what about my shirt?

I'm leaning toward wearing a Polo since I workout at the gym regularly and am fairly built. I'm about 185lbs at 5-11 (low body fat) and I have decent sized arms so I was thinking my off-white medium poloshirt would be perfect? When i wear that shirt it clearly displays that I have some muscle, but not too much. The brand of the shirt is Polo ralph lauren.

Or should I maybe wear a button down with a white undershirt underneath?

The button down with a matching t-shirt underneath. You can go a lot of places in it. Make sure the undershirt is snug, but not tight, fitting. You may get warm and want to take off the outer shirt. Either way she will be able to tell you are muscular in it without you having to try to show it off.
